How Much Power Does High VG Really Need?

Vegetable glycerine is thick and slow to wick, so it needs a coil with wide ports and enough heat to turn it into vapour quickly. That is what a sub ohm coil is: a low resistance mesh that draws real current. Below 0.6 ohm you need 40 watts or more, and the popular 0.15 to 0.3 ohm coils sit happiest between 60 and 90 watts. A kit that cannot reach that range leaves a 70/30 liquid tasting muted.

Which size you buy depends on how much you want to carry. A pod mod like the Vaporesso Luxe X runs 5 to 40 watts on a 1500mAh cell, enough for a restricted lung draw. Single 18650 kits such as the Drag X and RPM 100 reach 100 watts and swap batteries in seconds. The Aegis X and Armour Ultra go further, for anyone running a big tank all day. Whatever the size, use 3mg or 6mg liquid; the cloud does the rest.

Three device sizes for high VG liquid with their wattage ranges: pod mod to 40 watts, single battery mod to 100 watts, dual battery mod to 200 watts

Match the Kit to Your Cloud

Restricted lung draw

Luxe X, Argus E40 or Nord 4 at 25 to 40 watts with a 0.4 to 0.6 ohm coil. Warm, flavourful, still discreet.

Everyday sub ohm

Drag X, Drag X3 or RPM 100 at 50 to 80 watts on a 0.2 to 0.3 ohm coil. One 18650 lasts most of a day.

Maximum vapour

Aegis X or Armour Ultra above 100 watts. Budget for two batteries, a charger and a big bottle of 70/30.

High VG (Sub-Ohm) Vape Kits FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What VG ratio should I use in a sub ohm kit?

70/30 is the standard and what almost every shortfill is blended at. 80/20 works in the more powerful tanks. Anything at 50/50 is too thin for a sub ohm coil and will flood and spit, so keep those bottles for pod kits.

Why is my high VG liquid tasting burnt?

Thick liquid needs time to soak the cotton. Fill the tank, wait five minutes before the first puff, and start at the bottom of the wattage range printed on the coil. Chain vaping a new coil at full power is the usual cause of a burnt taste on day one.

Do I need separate batteries for these kits?

Only for the mods that use them. The Luxe X, Argus E40 and Armour Ultra have built-in cells. The Drag X, RPM 100, Drag X3 and Aegis X take 18650 batteries, which are sold separately along with a charger, and let you carry a spare.
