Choosing the Right Vape Battery

Start with the size your device takes. An 18650 fits the widest range of mods, a 21700 gives more capacity in a slightly larger body, and a 26650 only fits the minority of devices built for it. Fitting the wrong size is not possible, but buying the wrong one is, so check the manual first.

After that it is a trade off. A 3500mAh cell at 10A lasts longest but will not hold up at high wattage. A 2500mAh cell at 30A does the opposite. Most vapers are best served in the middle, around 3000mAh at 15A to 25A, which covers ordinary sub ohm use without cutting runtime short.

Which battery size does my mod take?

Check the manual or the battery door. Most external battery mods take one or two 18650 cells. Larger devices may take 21700, and a small number take 26650. If a mod accepts 21700 it will often take an 18650 with an adapter, but never force a cell that does not seat properly.

What do mAh and the amp rating actually mean?

mAh is capacity, so it governs how long you vape between charges. The amp figure is the continuous discharge rate, which is how much current the cell can safely deliver. High wattage sub ohm vaping needs a higher amp rating; running a cell beyond its rating is unsafe.

How should I store and carry spare batteries?

Always in a case or sleeve, never loose. A bare cell touching keys or coins can short and vent. Stop using any cell whose plastic wrap is torn or whose casing is dented, and recycle it at a battery collection point rather than in household waste.
