Intermediate Vaper Vape Kits

45 items
An intermediate kit is the step after a simple pod: adjustable wattage, a choice of coils, and usually both a tight MTL draw and an open lung draw from the same device. That is the Smok Nord and RPM lines, VooPoo Drag and Argus, Vaporesso Luxe and GTX, and the Uwell Caliburn X, priced from £14.99 to £59.99. Built-in batteries from 850mAh to 5500mAh sit alongside kits that take a removable 18650 cell, and everything here pairs with our replacement coils.

Built-in Battery or Removable 18650?

This is the first real fork in the road. A built-in cell keeps the kit small and simple: plug it in over USB-C like a phone and you are done. The Vaporesso Luxe X, Smok Nord 4 and VooPoo Vinci E80 all work this way, with 900mAh to 3000mAh inside, and the Vaporesso Armour Ultra stretches to 5500mAh for two-day use. The trade-off is that when the cell eventually fades, the whole kit goes with it.

A kit that takes a removable 18650, such as the VooPoo Drag X, Drag X3 or Smok RPM 100, lets you carry a charged spare and swap it in seconds, and it will happily run at 80 to 100 watts. You do need an external charger and a little care handling bare cells. If you vape at home most of the day, built-in is easier. If you are out for long stretches or want real power, go removable.

How Much Power Do You Actually Use?

The wattage on the box is the ceiling, not the setting. A kit rated to 80 or 100 watts spends most of its life between 15 and 40, because that is where the coils most people use are happiest. Mouth-to-lung coils at 0.8 ohm and above want 15 to 30 watts, which is why a 900mAh Smok Novo 5 or the 1100mAh Nord Pro can run all day. Sub ohm pod coils at 0.4 to 0.6 ohm sit at 30 to 60 watts, and only true cloud tanks on 0.15 ohm heads use the top half of a Drag 5 or Drag 6.

So choose on the draw you like and the coils you want to run, then make sure the battery matches the power. A 3000mAh cell at 30 watts lasts a working day; the same cell at 80 watts is done by lunch. Variable wattage matters because it lets you dial each coil in, not because you need every watt.

Intermediate Vaper Vape Kits FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a vape kit intermediate rather than beginner?

Adjustable wattage and a choice of coils. A beginner kit sets the power for you; an intermediate kit lets you dial it in, swap between MTL and sub ohm coils, and in many cases change the battery.

Do I need to buy batteries separately?

Only for kits that take an 18650 cell, such as the VooPoo Drag X or Smok RPM 100. Kits with a built-in battery charge over USB-C and come ready to use. The product page states which type each kit is.

Which e-liquid should I use in an intermediate kit?

It depends on the coil you fit. With a 0.8 ohm or higher MTL coil use a 50/50 liquid or nic salt at 10mg or 20mg. With a sub ohm coil below 0.8 ohm use a 70/30 shortfill mixed to 3mg or 6mg.

How long does the battery last on these kits?

At normal MTL power, a 900mAh to 1100mAh kit covers a day and a 3000mAh kit closer to two. At 60 to 100 watts the same cells drain in a few hours, which is why cloud kits favour removable 18650s.
