How to use and fill a vape pen: a practical guide

Check the model name and the fitted coil or pod. The Innokin Go S product page describes a refillable tank with a coil built into it. The Joyetech eGo Slim product page describes a refillable eRoll Slim pod with a built in coil. Neither needs a separate coil fitted inside that component.

Match your liquid to the product page’s recommendation. For the Go S, the page points to compatible vape liquid blends and nic salt vape liquids. The PockeX page gives different liquid recommendations for different coils, so do not assume that a liquid recommended for one pen suits every other pen.

Sliding cap: Innokin Go S

1. Slide the tank’s top cap open. The Go S product page says you can refill without removing the tank from the device.
2. Add the recommended vape liquid through the filling opening. Use the tank’s filling instructions for the amount rather than filling every visible space.
3. Slide the cap back into its closed position.
4. If this is a fresh tank, complete the soaking step below before using the firing button.

Screw cap: Aspire PockeX

1. Unscrew the top cap. On this model, the coil comes out with the cap.
2. Fill only to the marked maximum line. The PockeX product page specifically identifies this line as the filling limit.
3. Refit the cap and its attached coil.
4. When using a fresh coil, follow its priming and waiting instructions before the first puff.

These are different filling systems. Do not try to slide a screw cap or treat the open PockeX tank as space to fill to the brim.

These steps apply to the refillable eRoll Slim pod used by the Joyetech eGo Slim. Its stated capacity is 2ml.

1. Locate the silicone stopper on the side of the pod and lift it to open the filling port.
2. Add vape liquid through that port without exceeding the pod’s stated capacity.
3. Press the stopper back into place to reseal the port.
4. When fitting the pod, push it into the kit until it clicks firmly into place.
5. For a fresh pod, wait a few minutes before the first puff so the coil can soak.

These closure, fitting and waiting steps come from our eRoll Slim replacement pod instructions. Do not replace them with the top cap method used by a different pen.

Priming means allowing vape liquid to soak into the coil’s wicking material before use. The method depends on whether the coil is accessible or built into a sealed tank or pod.

1. Identify what you are replacing. The Go S uses a complete replacement tank, the eGo Slim uses a replacement pod and the PockeX uses a separate replacement coil.
2. Where your coil instructions call for direct priming, add a few drops of vape liquid onto the cotton. Our Zorva Liq product guidance describes wetting the cotton before first use. Do not treat this as an instruction to dismantle a pod with a built in coil.
3. Fill and close the tank or pod using the appropriate method above.
4. Leave the coil to soak before the first puff. The eRoll Slim pod page says a few minutes. For another coil or tank, use the waiting period in its own instructions rather than borrowing a time from a different product.
5. Once the setup and soaking steps are complete, use the device’s activation method. Hold the Go S button while taking a puff; the eGo Slim activates when you inhale.

The waiting step here concerns a fresh coil or pod. Do not mistake filling the reservoir for having completed that first use preparation.

1. Find your model’s airflow control. The Go S has adjustable airflow; the eGo Slim has a slider on the back.
2. Move the control towards a more closed setting for a tighter draw, or open it for a looser draw.
3. Try the draw after filling and priming, then adjust again to suit your preference.

Both product pages describe airflow adjustment as a way to change the feel of the inhale. It does not replace choosing the liquid recommended for the fitted coil.

1. Identify the connection specified for your kit. The Go S product page lists an included USB charging cable. The eGo Slim page specifies USB C charging and an included cable.
2. Connect the appropriate cable to the kit’s charging port and use the charging instructions supplied with that model. Do not assume a cable for another pen is the right one.
3. Use your model’s indicator guidance to check battery status. The eGo Slim product page says its indicator flashes red when the battery is low.
4. Check the kit instructions for the full charge indication and when to disconnect. This guide does not assign a universal light pattern, charger rating or charging time to all vape pens.

Overfilling

On the PockeX, stop at the marked maximum line before refitting the cap and coil. On the eRoll Slim pod, stay within its stated capacity. If you have already overfilled, correct the level using that model’s instructions before completing the refill. These product pages do not describe an excess liquid removal method, so do not improvise a draining procedure from another kit.

Leaking after a refill

1. Check the filling limit first. The PockeX page links filling to the maximum line with avoiding leaks.
2. For an eRoll Slim pod, press the silicone stopper fully back into place to reseal the opening.
3. Check that the pod is fitted as described on its product page, clicking firmly into place.

These are checks of the documented filling and fitting steps, not a diagnosis of every leak. If the leak continues, use the instructions or support for that particular tank or pod.

Dry hits or a burnt taste

1. If the coil or pod is fresh, check that you completed the soaking step before first use.
2. Check your liquid against the recommendation for that coil. The Zorva Liq product page discusses liquid thickness and dry hits in small tanks; it is not a reason to use the same liquid in every kit.
3. For an eGo Slim that tastes burnt, fit a fresh eRoll Slim pod, as its product page directs. Fill it and allow it to soak before using it.

Do not assume every kit has a removable coil. On the Go S, the product page directs you to replace the whole tank when the flavour fades. On the eGo Slim, you replace the pod.

Can I use my vape pen straight after filling it?

Not straight after filling a fresh eRoll Slim pod: its product page says to wait a few minutes for the coil to soak. For a different fresh coil or tank, follow that component’s waiting instructions.

Can I use any vape liquid in a vape pen?

Check the recommendation for your fitted coil or pod. The Go S and eGo Slim pages each specify suitable liquid blends, while the PockeX page varies its recommendation by coil. Our vape liquid range is a starting point, not a universal compatibility list.

Do I replace the coil or the whole pod?

It depends on the model. The PockeX has replaceable coils. The Go S coil is built into its replacement tank, and the eGo Slim coil is built into its eRoll Slim replacement pod.

Why does my eGo Slim have no firing button?

It uses inhale activation. After filling and allowing a fresh pod to soak, inhale through the mouthpiece to operate it. The Go S instead uses a firing button.

Can I use the same charging cable for every vape pen?

Do not assume so. Check the connection listed for the particular model: the eGo Slim page specifies USB C, while the Go S page describes its included USB cable. Follow each kit’s charging instructions.
